Pitahaya wird auch Dragon Fruit bzw. wissenschaftlich Hylocereus undatus genannt. Sie zählen zur Familie der Kakteen und kommen ursprünglich aus Mexico und Colombia. Dragon Fruit wird in Vietnam seit 1990 für den kommerziellen Obsthandel in Südost-Asien angebaut.
